Least favourite nail polish

This was an interesting prompt. Not many times are you supposed to say your least favourite! But figuring out what was my least favourite was super easy! I now have a job, so I can actually buy nail polish when I want it. But up until then, I could only get ones that I REALLY needed. I needed a yellow and a green and I saw really cheap ones from Kmart.

It would have been worth it to get better polish. (and I really should now that I have a job and actually do use those colours.) They don't spread well because they're streaky. They smell unlike any nail polish that I've had. They're also pretty sheer. I had to layer some white (Snow Me White by Sinful Colors) underneath. The yellow is Bananarama and the green is Envious.

The snozzberries taste like snozzberries!

While my nails may not taste like the fruit they show, they do smell like them! When deciding what to do with this prompt, I realised that I have a few different polishes that smell like fruit. How perfect! I started off with Chic from Revlon as the base colour for my nails.

My index finger is a raspberry. I used Raspberry Rapture from Revlon. I also added some of the Blackest Black from Designer Brands so that I could have the darker part inside of the raspberry.

My middle finger is a bunch of grapes. I used Grape Icy from Revlon with Envious from Kmart as the vine.

My ring finger is a slice of watermelon using Ginger Melon from Revlon Parfumerie. I also used Lily White from Ulta 3 and Envious to make the rind. Blackest Black is used for the seeds.

My pinkie is an apricot. I used Apricot Nectar from Revlon Parfumerie. For the stem, I used A-piers to be Tan from OPI. A combination of the two was used for the indentation mark.

Skulls- Biohazard

I had a couple of ideas for the theme of skulls, but I ultimately decided to take a public health approach and do poison/biohazard.

I first painted them Honolulu from Ulta3 and the detail is Blackest Black from Designer Brands.

Candy- Cadbury Bubbly

I was originally thinking of candy hearts for the theme since it's still February. But an idea came to me while I was unable to sleep one night. I came out to my desk and saw a bar of Cadbury mint Bubbly that my husband gave me for Valentine's Day. I decided it would be perfect!

I did the Cadbury logo on my left hand. I was so excited because I thought that I would get to use one of my many purples that I have that are similar that I don't use that often. Then I got them out and realised that no. Once again I don't seem to have the correct colour purple, which seems to always happen. I wanted to use a shimmery purple, but they were all too much on the red side of purple. Instead I used Desire from Formula X, which is a cream. The lettering is done with Gold Fusion from China Glaze magnetix.

I decided to go with the actual chocolate bar for my right hand. I started with using Mint Tint from Sally Hansen. What a perfect name! I tried to do a blobbicure with some top coat, but that didn't work all that well. I ended up just poking holes in it with a dotting tool and then putting a top coat on and repeating. I'm actually pretty happy with the bubbles since they started off so poorly. I then added a chocolate french tip with A-piers to be Tan from OPI.

Anti Valentine's Day (part 3?)

I made a goof. I'm always doing challenges because I think they're fun, but I sometimes get confused. One of my earlier challenges this month was anti-valentine's day. I saw my design already done, so I decided to do a new design for that and post my other design for the other challenge. Then I couldn't find which other challenge had a day for anti-valentine. I ended up putting the other two on the same post so I had to make a new one for this day!

I decided to take some of my own personal history and turn it into nail art. I never had my heart broken and didn't care much about Valentine's Day being single. But my now-husband and I had a really long distance relationship through almost all of our time dating and engagement. I was in America and he was in Australia. I call this nail art World Apart.

The polishes I used are the white and black from Models Prefer studs pack, Sapphire Siren by Maybelline, and Sassy by Revlon.

Valentine's Day

I am doing three different challenges for Valentine's Day and this is my only prompt that's actually for the day itself!

My thought was that I wanted to paint my nails so that I had lips when I put together my two fingers. I knew that red had to be used for lipstick and black seemed like the perfect match. The red is Red My Fortune Cookie from OPI and the black is Blackest Black from Designer Brands.

The idea behind the other nails was that I wanted it to be sexy, like pretty much any red and black manicure. I wanted to get a lingerie/fishnet look. I tried to achieve this through sponging on top of a piece of my shower scrubby. I've seen it done before online, but I must have been missing something because it failed epically. It just made it black all over the red. I decided to just go with a striping brush to do the criss crosses to try and get the effect. I'm still happy with how they turned out.

Silly Love Songs

This week's prompt for Nail Crazies Unite is "Love Song." I decided that I wanted to do the song "Silly Love Songs." I only know it from Glee and Darren Criss sings it. He's my favourite singer. (Of course that may have to do with his start in creating A Very Potter Musical.

So my thumb says the blog title. My index finger is the world because the lyrics are "some people want to fill the world with silly love songs." My middle finger is because of the lyrics "love doesn't come in a minute, sometimes it doesn't come at all." My ring finger is for "All I know is when I'm in it, love isn't silly at all." The chorus then says "I love you" over and over again, so that's my pinkie.

The polishes that I used are the black and white from Models Prefer studs pack, Sapphire Siren from Maybelline, Sassy by Revlon, and Strawberry Sundae by ulta3.

Sealed with a Kiss!

Today's theme for the Challenge Your Nail Art facebook group is Love Letters. I wanted to go both literal with L-O-V-E and love letters that you write. I decided to do the letters on my core four and an envelope that's sealed with a kiss (SWAK) on my thumb.

The white and black are from the studs pack from Models Prefer. The red is Red my Fortune Cookie from OPI.

I love the colour...

Green! I absolutely love the colour green, which means that St. Patrick's Day next month will be great! But I digress.

I did the same technique, using a sponge, that I did when I created my fire nails not too long ago. I haven't seen it on a blog or anything before, but I'm sure I didn't make it up. I paint on a sponge first. It's like a gradient, only I do dots of different colours or, in this case, shades. I really like how it turns out. It's like a marbley look that people sometimes achieve with Saran wrap, but it's a million times easier.

The colours that I used are 42 by Fuso, Con-fused? by China Glaze magnetix, Envious by Kmart, Sassy by Revlon and Gargantuan Green Grape by OPI.

Nail art technique you love

I just discovered distressing a few weeks ago and I love it! It's so easy and looks awesome!

I decided that I wanted Valentine's Day colours, so I chose pink and purple first and decided it could use a blue. The polishes are Desire as the base colour, Indelible (light purple), Brazen (pink), and Continuum (blue) for the the distressed colours. They are all from Formula X.

Hearts

This manicure falls into the category of "it looked better in my head." It looks a little too 5-year-old-obsessed-with-Barbie for my personal liking.

There are many ways to go about hearts and I chose to do a modified French tip as the top of a heart. The polishes I used are Brazen (the pink) and Freaky like Freud (the holographic silver/lavender). Both are from Formula X.

Brain Tumour Awareness

Seven years ago today, I was undergoing brain surgery. I'm not only glad that I survived the ordeal but I'm glad that it happened, too. For example, since it was in my cerebellum I am kind of ambidextrous which is awesome for doing nail art! You can read about my story on the blog that my family wrote while I was recovering here and my perspective a few years later here.

To celebrate, I wanted to paint a gray ribbon on my nails, which is the colour for brain tumour/cancer awareness. The gray that I have is called Gray Matter, from Formula X, so it was perfect! The background colour is Continuum from Formula X and the glitter is Nail Junkie from Sinful Colors.

Anti-Valentine's Day

The second mani was actually my original idea for the "Anti-Valentine's Day" prompt, but then I saw that someone else had done it on instagram and I wanted to be different. So I was going to do it for one of my other challenges because I could have sworn that another one had an Anti-Valentine's Day theme. Well I must be going crazy trying to keep track of all of my challenges because I couldn't find it. Instead I present both!

I wanted to mimic a comic from xkcd, which is a nerd comic online. I met my now-husband on a retreat and he wore a shirt that had this comic on it quite a bit. The comic says "my normal approach is useless here." Basically it's that a nerdy maths geek is hopeless at love because it can't be written as an equation. I thought it represented the theme great and it sticks with my nerd theme!

The colours that are used were the black and white from the Models Prefer studs pack and Strawberry Sundae from Ulta3.

But on to my original idea of dying of a broken heart. I wanted to use Today I Accomplished Zero from OPI's Coca-Cola collection. I liked the idea of the red glitters being like pieces of broken heart. I realised when I tried to apply it that it was still quite transparent despite the black colouring, so I added black as the base colour. The EKG/words are done with Gray Matter from Formula X.

Rushing Waters retreat nails

This past weekend, I went on a retreat with Rushing Waters. We went down to the south coast of NSW for a weekend of getting to know each other and planning for the coming year. I was advised that I should bring my nail polishes, well some of them since they wouldn't all fit in my travel bag. I ended up giving two girls manicures. The lighting wasn't great, so excuse the less than optimal pictures.

I used a fan brush for the first manicure. She wanted it to be sort of a gradient, but I unfortunately didn't have any makeup sponges with me. What I did instead, was I started with a base colour of Dutch Ya Just Love OPI. I then fanned on some Lavender Soap from Revlon Parfumerie toward the top half and Desire from Formula X on the bottom half. Then I felt that the contrast was too stark, so I fan brushed on some more Dutch Ya Just Love OPI on top.

The second one was a distressed look. I just love these and they're so super easy! She loves purple and bright green, so the colours she chose were Glowstick from Wet n Wild Fergie, Dutch Ya Just Love OPI, and Gumdrops from OPI, which is a silver glitter that I got with Pretty in Plum.

Recreate one of your old manis

Day 27

This one is out of order for a very good reason. I really wanted to have this one on for more than one day.  I never repeat a mani, so I was very excited to see this prompt. It's great to be able to see how far I've come in the past year!

I used a lot of polishes and unfortunately I'm not at home with my polishes since I'm on my way to leave for the weekend. I'll post them when I get back.

EDIT: The white and black are from the studs pack from Models Prefer. The green for the nerds is Glowstick from Wet 'n' Wild Fergie. The yellow is Bananarama from Kmart. The pink is Strawberry Sundae from Ulta 3. I didn't have a purple cream that I liked, so I mixed Plugged in Plum from OPI and the white. The light blue is Continuum from Formula X. The dark blue is Sapphire Siren from Maybelline, and the light green on the logo is Sassy from Revlon.
