Easter Sunrise

As a Christian, I wanted to do the true meaning of Easter, but don't get me wrong. I love chocolate and cute bunnies just as much as the next person. I decided to do a silhouette of the crosses at Calvary at sunrise. My church has a sunrise service for Easter, so I thought it was perfect. I absolutely love how they turned out! Plus I got a few compliments at the Good Friday church service!

First I painted my nails yellow with Honolulu by Ulta 3. Then I used a sponge to create an orange/yellow gradient with Honolulu and Bright Me by Ulta 3. The silhouette was painted with Black Satin, also from Ulta 3.

Pokemon Shuffle

I gave my husband two choices for the theme of my nails and he decided on Pokemon shuffle. We're both huge nerds and are part of a Nintendo 3DS club. Pokemon shuffle is a game that Nintendo just created an icon for on our 3DSs in hopes that we'd all download it. Just about everyone in the club, with the exception of my husband, plays it.

The nails took quite a few hours to complete. I started too late and ended up being awake way past my bedtime, which wasn't good since I suffer from insomnia and am trying to have good sleeping hygiene. Oops!

I used Tiramisu from Sephora for the backgrounds of the nails. The other polishes used were You're so Vain-illa from OPI, white and black from the Models Prefer studs pack, No Room for the Blues from OPI, A-piers to be Tan from OPI, Brazen from Formula X, Gray Matter from Formula X, Bonna Blue from Fresh Paint, Sorry I'm Fizzy Today from OPI, a pale yellow frankenpolish I made a few months ago, Honolulu from Ulta 3, Red My Fortune Cookie from OPI, Bright Me from Ulta 3, and Wisteria from Picture Polish.

I made each pokemon by starting with the outlines, like a colouring book, using my smallest dotting tool. I then filled them in with their colours.

From left to right:

Marill- No Room for the Blues, black, white, and Sorry I'm Fizzy Toda
Pikachu- black, Honolulu, Red My Fortune Cookie, and Sorry I'm Fizzy Today
Swablu- No Room for the Blues, black, and white
Torchic- Honolulu, mixture of Honolulu and Bright Me (main part of body), Sorry I'm Fizzy Today black, and white
Pokeball- black, white, and Red My Fortune Cookie

Slowpoke- Brazen, franken light yellow, black, white, and Sorry I'm Fizzy Today (he was also really hard and I had to completely start over when he looked too much like a pig!)
Azurill- No Room for the Blues, black, white, and Sorry I'm Fizzy Today
Chingling- Honolulu, Tiramisu and Gray Matter mixed (cheeks), white, black, and a mix of Sorry I'm Fizzy Today and Brazen (pink in hair)
Illumise- Bonna Blue, No Room for the Blues, black, white, Sorry I'm Fizzy Today, franken light yellow, and Wisteria

What's In-die Box? Disney princesses!

I've been on a bit of a hiatus. Sorry about that! Since I started my job, which admittedly is only three days a week, I feel like I've been going through a cycle of busy days and then being sick. That combined with my laptop only working on wired internet meaning that I can't move it from my desk, means that blogging has not been on my top priorities list!

I'm finally getting my act together to write up a blog post because I got the What's In-die Box? this month! (and I finally have time to write up the post!) I have been wanting to get one, but my rule was no buying nail polish until I got a job. Preorders went up in February and I got a job at the end of February. Clearly it was meant to be because I LOVE Disney!

I decided to go with the polish for Cinderella, Minutes Before Midnight from Gloss 'n Sparkle. I don't like visible nail line (VNL) so I decided to do a gradient with Ariel from Glam Polish. I wasn't sure how well they would gradient because of the different sparkles, but I absolutely love it!

The first day that I wore them out was also when my husband, who is also a huge Disney fan, and I went out around to two different shopping centres to find which stores were participating in a Disney promotion of Buy One Get One Free. We wanted to make sure we were getting the Blu-rays that were available and the cheapest prices. It was quite a busy day of making spreadsheets and tracking down the DVDs. Our collection still isn't complete because of the Disney vault, but we definitely made a lot of progress!

I also had this fail during my hiatus. For St. Patrick's Day, I tried to do a snake skin design, but that was an epic fail. I just could not get the design right and the colours looked weird. I'm thinking that black instead of white would have been better, but I wasn't sure if the green would show up over the black.

Gold 2.0

The prompt for week 2 of NAIL is Gold, so I did another gold mani. I'm not a huge fan of gold, as I prefer silver, but I like this one. I decided that red was a good colour to match with gold. My initial thought was Gryffindor but Iron Man is also red and gold. As I'm a Slytherin, I like to think of it as Iron Man. The colours and design also remind me a bit of the decorations seen at a lot of Chinese restaurants.

I used Red My Fortune Cookie by OPI and used a dry brush technique with Gold Fusion by China Glaze Magnetix.

Cinderelly, Cinderelly

I love Disney and Disney princesses. In fact, I'm getting What's In-die Box this month because the theme is Disney princesses. But sadly that's coming later in the month and the theme for the NAIL linkup is Cinderella this week.

I wanted to make my nails look like her dress, the new revamped one since I added glitter. My middle finger is her face and the thumb is a "glass slipper." It was my first time doing negative space. I was thinking at first that I wanted to do negative space because the slipper is glass. Then I realised that negative space also works because the slipper is missing.

The polishes that I used were Honolulu from Ulta 3, Lily White by Ulta3, Blackest Black by Designer Brands, Radiant Violet from Three Beauties, Freaky like Freud from Formula X, Coach Ella from Fresh Paint, Bonna Blue from Fresh Paint, No Room for the Blues from OPI, A-piers to be Tan from OPI, and Strawberry Sundae from Ulta 3.

Gold

The first prompt for Nail Crazies Unite this month is gold. I knew what I wanted to do right away, but I had to get a new gold polish. I don't have many glitters and that's what I needed. But with starting a new job and feeling sick, I wasn't able to get the polish until yesterday.

I started off using Blackest Black from Designer Brands. I wanted a gold glitter gradient, so I bought Ripple Effect from Sally Hansen. My nails didn't turn out exactly how I wanted because I  don't have much experience with glitter and this was a really thick jelly base. I ended up meaning that my nails have really awkward thick points even though I used top coat. I still like them a lot, though.

Please excuse the awkward nub on my right hand. I was drying off my hands after washing them and discovered that a piece of my nail just ripped off! I didn't see or feel anything. I couldn't bring myself to shorten the rest of my nails just for the little trouble maker!

Least favourite nail polish

This was an interesting prompt. Not many times are you supposed to say your least favourite! But figuring out what was my least favourite was super easy! I now have a job, so I can actually buy nail polish when I want it. But up until then, I could only get ones that I REALLY needed. I needed a yellow and a green and I saw really cheap ones from Kmart.

It would have been worth it to get better polish. (and I really should now that I have a job and actually do use those colours.) They don't spread well because they're streaky. They smell unlike any nail polish that I've had. They're also pretty sheer. I had to layer some white (Snow Me White by Sinful Colors) underneath. The yellow is Bananarama and the green is Envious.

The snozzberries taste like snozzberries!

While my nails may not taste like the fruit they show, they do smell like them! When deciding what to do with this prompt, I realised that I have a few different polishes that smell like fruit. How perfect! I started off with Chic from Revlon as the base colour for my nails.

My index finger is a raspberry. I used Raspberry Rapture from Revlon. I also added some of the Blackest Black from Designer Brands so that I could have the darker part inside of the raspberry.

My middle finger is a bunch of grapes. I used Grape Icy from Revlon with Envious from Kmart as the vine.

My ring finger is a slice of watermelon using Ginger Melon from Revlon Parfumerie. I also used Lily White from Ulta 3 and Envious to make the rind. Blackest Black is used for the seeds.

My pinkie is an apricot. I used Apricot Nectar from Revlon Parfumerie. For the stem, I used A-piers to be Tan from OPI. A combination of the two was used for the indentation mark.

Skulls- Biohazard

I had a couple of ideas for the theme of skulls, but I ultimately decided to take a public health approach and do poison/biohazard.

I first painted them Honolulu from Ulta3 and the detail is Blackest Black from Designer Brands.

Candy- Cadbury Bubbly

I was originally thinking of candy hearts for the theme since it's still February. But an idea came to me while I was unable to sleep one night. I came out to my desk and saw a bar of Cadbury mint Bubbly that my husband gave me for Valentine's Day. I decided it would be perfect!

I did the Cadbury logo on my left hand. I was so excited because I thought that I would get to use one of my many purples that I have that are similar that I don't use that often. Then I got them out and realised that no. Once again I don't seem to have the correct colour purple, which seems to always happen. I wanted to use a shimmery purple, but they were all too much on the red side of purple. Instead I used Desire from Formula X, which is a cream. The lettering is done with Gold Fusion from China Glaze magnetix.

I decided to go with the actual chocolate bar for my right hand. I started with using Mint Tint from Sally Hansen. What a perfect name! I tried to do a blobbicure with some top coat, but that didn't work all that well. I ended up just poking holes in it with a dotting tool and then putting a top coat on and repeating. I'm actually pretty happy with the bubbles since they started off so poorly. I then added a chocolate french tip with A-piers to be Tan from OPI.
